King of Kong

If there was ever a movie about the classic video game Donkey Kong that could be considered a tearjerker, King of Kong: Fistful of Quarters is it!  It came out on DVD yesterday and I'm typing this as the credits roll ... if you haven't seen it, log off the damn internet right now and go get it.  Steve Wiebe > Billy Mitchell any day! Laurel can verify that I had tears in my eyes after I watched this (she didn't watch it). There are only two other movies that make me cry: It's a Wonderful Life and Back to the Future III. I'm not joking.

100,000 visits

Today, this blog will have its 100,000th visit (a "visit" is logged each time you open the blog, unless you've looked at it within the past half hour).  Don't you people have anything better to do?

Worst dance ever

I finally cracked open the Absinthe today.  Oh ... my ... God ... the ... horror.  The smell was awful, the taste even worse.  I know there are children not getting drunk in third-world nations, but I had to pour it down the drain.

Some happy spam!

I got some "spam" (via the old US Postal Service, so I guess it was technically just junk mail) that actually gave me some interesting and good news!  It was from a company that will make little knick-knacks to celebrate the grant of a US Patent.  Turns out, this is for a patent that I didn't even know had been granted yet (US Patent #7,317,928 "System and Method for Exposing Instant Messenger Presence Information on a Mobile Device" by Stewart, et al)!  So that makes 2 granted, and 2 still pending approval.

Walking on Air

I ordered my MacBook Air!  I was intending to buy the 64-gig solid-state drive upgrade, but one thing they didn't mention at MacWorld was that it costs an extra thousand bucks!  So, I didn't get that.  Instead, I got the base model (which has a bigger 80-gig drive, although it is not as fast or robust).  I can't wait for it to ship!  To answer "Lousy Chef's" comment from my last post, I think Laurel will get my current MacBook Pro, and we will try to put her old PowerBook up for auction on ebay.

Mac Air

I can't wait to get back to the hotel (we are at Disney Hollywood
studios now) so I can preorder the new MacBook Air! It is just what I
like; a small notebook. I also am excited to finally get the new
iPhone firmware. I followed the macworld keynote on my phone while
waiting for the great movie ride (which ain't so great), and now I am
waiting while Laurel does the tower of terror. We just got off
"rocking roller coaster" where I managed to pull off "the dumb guy"
look as they snapped a picture when you take off. It is my dumb guy
masterpiece; I'll scan it to flickr when we get home. I am attempting
to get a "dumb guy" in every photo taken at Disney. Should have some
to post tonight as they put some of your park pictures online for you.

She's goofy

Laurel completed her first marathon today, an achievement made all the more impressive by also doing a 5K race and a half-marathon in the days before. This earned her a "Goofy" medal in addition to the separate race medals. Good job, Laurel!!!

Dave will dance with the fairy (not that there's anything wrong with that)

The Green Fairy
Originally uploaded by Seattle Dave.

After years of waiting, during which, quite frankly, I've basically lost all interest, you can finally get absinthe (aka the Green Fairy) in the United States. So I got some, and a little spoon for doing the whole dandy-mc'-foppery-doo that goes along with drinking it. It'll have to wait, though, till I get back from vacation, as I've got no time to be getting drunk at the moment!
