The trip plan

I've posted a webpage here with the latest trip plan from Microsoft Streets and Trips 2007.

A few notes:

  • The little red dots you see are Harley-Davidson dealer locations.
  • The driving plan skips "day 4" because that's the day I'm taking the train to the Grand Canyon.
  • The plan after Las Vegas is not fleshed out yet, other than basically "return home." I'll figure that part out on the road, since I'm not sure if I'll want to stretch it out to an extra day or compress it to get home faster.

Looks a bit like the one we did :-)
However we had to go through SF and LA since we had never been there previously.

Unless your have already done it, make sure you go through Utah Route 12, probably one of the most beautiful roads in the West. Check out the photos on my blog.

After the Grand Canyon, take the unique road up north going towards Arizona - their is a small village 30 minutes from the Grand Canyon. I would eat there, it's pretty good and the village is lovely.
You can then sleep in Kanab, first town in Utah. About half an hour after Kanab, above Grand Escalante NP turn off and take the 'magical' route 12, it's well worth it. We did Kanab UT to Twin Falls ID in one day but that was pretty tough. Alternatively, go to Northeastern Arizona and do Monument Valley, but that's a long long drive. We had to give up on this one :'-(
