Dave has Oscar 2005 fever!!!

I was going to make a big joke and say, "Here are the Oscar-nominated movies that I actually saw this year: None." But as it turns out, that just isn't true! I've actually been to the movies this year, although not always by choice. Here are the films that I saw that intersect with those that got Oscar "nods" (and in fact, this may be a complete list of movies I've seen this year in the theater):
  • Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (Best Actress, Best Screenplay)
  • The Incredibles (Screenplay, Animation, Sound Mixing, Sound Editing)
  • The Passion of the Christ (Cinematography, Makeup, Score)
  • Super Size Me (Documentary Feature)
  • Spider-Man 2 (Sound Mixing, Sound Editing, Visual Effects)

Let me correct that slightly. I did not see The Passion of the Christ in the theater, but rather on DVD. Since when do movies come out on DVD the same year they are nominated for an Oscar? What a crazy fast-paced world.

Of course, all of those movies (except the Incredibles) are out on DVD now ... I even have Spider-Man 2, which was a really good movie, even if you don't care for superheros or comic books (which I don't).

Some of my "Best Picture" Oscar nomination reviews:

"The Aviator"- I walked out of this movie... and I was on a plane. Actually, that's not true, but I like bad plane jokes... like THIS MOVIE.

"Finding Neverland"- I hope the sequel stars Richard Grieco.

"Million Dollar Baby"- make that "Million and 9 dollar and seventy-three cent Baby" after one adult ticket and a nachos.

"Ray"- Did you see this movie? Neither did Ray Charles. Because he is dead.

"Sideways"- a movie about wine drinking with a guy from "Wings" and a girl from "Arli$$"? Who's in the Academy? Me?
