Dave's Varmint Hunt!

We've had a problem since we got our new sod installed. Every morning, the edges of the sod get turned up. We had a range of wild theories for this. Then, we remembered that Laurel had seen an opossum hiding under the stairs of our house a few months ago, and I had heard what I thought was a cat climbing the tree near our house. We then figured -- it was the opossum.

So tonight, armed with a nightvision camcorder, I set out to catch it in the act, and it didn't take long before I did!

However, on review of the tape, we think it is a racoon.

See the video of the scoundrel caught red-pawed.

If the eyes reflect back white it is a racoon. If I remember correctly if the reflection is red it is a opossum.

It is hard to see on the captured tape, given that you really have to adjust your monitor for the darkness, but on the original played back directly, it is pretty easy to see that it is a racoon rather than an opossum. Black stripe around the eyes, bushy striped tail, not-so-pointed nose.
