Chili cookoff controversy
We attended what is now known as the First Annual Vargas Chili Cookoff today. It was great fun, with great food. Pictures here. The controversy: Garrett's chili was chosen as the best, even though it was a watery mess and not at all challenging to the sophisticated chili-tasting palette (OK, and it was also quite tasty ... still, we suspect bribery at the highest levels of the chili judging echelon).

Hey, my chili was simply the best. The consistency may not have been the best, but the taste was in the meat.
I think Dave's still upset that he was crushed in Ms. Pac-Man.

WOW Dave must be getting OLD! LOL. In his prime we would have to drag him out of the gameroom of the pizza place and give up all his credits.
Dave's Dad
I was never that good at Ms. PacMan ... in fact, I think my score at Garrett's was about my best -- 75,000 or so. Of course, he stepped up and scored 150,000+ without even breaking a wrist sweat.
All I know if you took back the left over corn bread and it was so good.... Next year I think we'll add a corn bread category to the contest.
;-) We were able to "double-dip" on the cornbread credit by taking it to a breakfast we were invited to the next morning. How rude, I know ... of course, I would have taken two or three chili pots home with me if that was anywhere near socially acceptable (i.e., if your backs had been turned long enough).
