Better race

I did a 10K this morning - the RYKA Iron Girl. It was really well put together. There was a nice goody bag of organic treats and even organic soap and shampoo (two things I needed desperately after running 6.2 miles). Even though I was questioning the wisdom of doing a 10K within a week of a half marathon, I resisted the urge to break off with the 5K runners when they were coming up on their finish. Fewer mistakes were made this time, though I did lose about 30 seconds right at the end when I thought my breakfast was going to come up. At any rate, I came in under an hour, got a free shirt, and got a finishers medal to add to my collection. It wasn't a bad way to start my morning.

Post-race post: mistakes were made

Well, I finished, but it was SLOW. I didn't want to head out of the gate too quickly so I lined up with the 11:00/mile pace group. And that is exactly where I finished at 2:23.
The good news is I feel great and shouldn't have to recover. Just don't tell me it's great to have finished at all because my response will be "bite me."

The good:
getting a room before the race
yummy doughnuts
nice weather
was able to sprint into the finish

The bad:
eating meat the night before the race
my hydration belt weighing me down AND not having enough water
running this race slower than my previous one

Up next:
possible 10K or 5K this weekend depending on how I feel this week
Tower of Terror 13K
Las Vegas marathon (or possibly half)

Pre-race post

Dave and I arrived at Willows Lodge this evening, which is right by the start of the race. This way we don't have to worry about driving to the Eastside and parking tomorrow morning. The hotel is great.
I think I remembered everything - clothes, shoes, snacks, ipod, gps watch.... I picked up some high-carb snacks for tonight and tomorrow including vegan pumpkin doughnuts (this is what happens when you shop for junk food at PCC). The doughnuts are good and don't taste like sawdust and hippie's feet like most vegan baked goods.
Presumably Dave will be snapping pics tomorrow when he's not busy eating eggs benedict.

Feeling somewhat foolish

I don't keep with Tennessee football much in the off season. Lately the heartbreak of the bowl season has meant I want to forget about football for 7 months. However, if I had been paying attention, I would have put together that UT starting their season with a game at Cal, means that I could see a game without having to fly across the country. According to volnation.com, there's a pretty decent sized TN contingent in the Bay Area for the game. And major props to both teams for being the only nationally ranked teams not to start their seasons against some team they can blow out for the amusement of the home fans.
