More sewing

My practice shirt.  One more and I think I'll have the pattern down :)  Then I'll tackle a dress.

Next sewing project

Today I sewed a grocery bag using a pattern I reverse engineered from one of the bags I bought at the grocery store.

Cozy?

Today I sewed for the first time in years.  My creation, a slipcover for one of Dave's many Moleskine notebooks.  Maybe the next one will have a pocket for his pencils.

What can be salvaged from the Mariners' season

I have no idea why I'm inspired to post about the Mariners.
But here are a few things that have made me happy this season.
  1. Willie Bloomquist's race for immortality - nearly making it an entire calendar year without an extra base hit. It pretty much represented the season as a whole. As an aside, I do like having the guy on the team and wish him the best of luck getting off the DL.
  2. Carlos Silva going to the DL with Jeff Weaveritis.
  3. Ichiro!
  4. Ryan Roland-Smith. He could be a good starter next year. And he's smoking hot.
  5. That time when Richie Sexson charged the mound and got tossed from a game for no reason at all. Man, that was weird and funny at the same time.
  6. Felix hitting a grand slam.
  7. Raul Ibanẽz's recent tear. On one hand, your team is in trouble if your star offensive player is Raul Ibanẽz. On the other, good for him. Now please, someone take the poor man out of left field and DH him for remainder of his career in Seattle.
  8. When Jamie Burke pitched.
  9. When our pitchers talk to the media and try to deflect from their own lacking performances. Perhaps Wash and Silva should follow Erik Bedard's example, both in pitching better and just not talking to the press.
  10. The awesome Mariners commercial featuring Jose (and Pepe) Vidro, John McLaran, and Bill Bavasi. It's nearly as good as the one that had Pokey Reese in it a few years back.

Sometimes the internet doesn't suck

Case in point, the West Seattle Blog. Citizen journalism at its best.

From police incidents to what's fresh at the WS Farmers' Market this week, the WSB covers it all.

Not-sucking runner-up: ussmariner.com. Your source for all the commentary you need about the worst team in Major League Baseball.

Laurel and Dave's SoCal Tour 08

We decided to do a Comic-Con/Disneyland weeklong jaunt through Southern CA. Actually, I decided and Dave agreed.
So we will fly into San Diego for some geeking out, then drive to Anaheim for some mouse action, then fly back to Seattle out of John Wayne.

Hotels were already booked up for Comic-Con. Even as a Hilton super-elite level member, the only property I could book under $500 (that's per night, not total) anywhere close to the convention center was the Hampton Inn.

Because we were able to book the Hampton Inn on points, we were able to splurge and do the Grand Californian at Disneyland.

There should be some great pictures on this trip.
